I am an architect from Israel, with an MSc in architectural history and theory and a PhD in Sociology. In the KNOW programme, I am a Research Fellow in Work Package 3: Ethics of Research and Practice.
I have conducted practical work in architecture and planning, as well as academic and applied research. In my PhD, I investigated the representational qualities of miniature architectural models and the role they play in the context of various exhibitions, theme parks and heritage sites in constructing a sense of collective memory and national identity. My following publications continued the investigation of architectural models as political representations of contested spaces.
I was head of the Department for Urbanism and Social Justice at BIMKOM - Planners for Planning Rights - an NGO promoting social equality and human rights in Israel and Palestine. I conducted ‘top down’ work with decision-makers, aimed at influencing housing and planning policies, and ‘bottom up’ work with under-privileged communities, aimed at learning about their planning requirements and opinions, and providing professional knowledge required to empower them to influence planning processes.
The aim of WP3 is to develop a situated ethics approach that supports knowledge co-production for urban equality. Jane Rendell and I will develop ethical principles, guidelines and case studies for an ‘ethics of practice’ for research, capacity-building and co-production of knowledge for urban equality.
