Minh Chau

South East Asia Regional Partner

Asian Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR)

I am a Program Coordinator with the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR) where we are providing regional support to three selected KNOW cities within Asia.

I became involved with ACHR in 1990, where I worked on the first pilot project of community-based slum upgrading in Vietnam. Prior to this, I was a Government Officer in the Land and Housing Department authority, Ho Chi Minh City (1987-1997). In 1994, I won a Fulbright Scholarship for my Masters at Cornell University in New York.

After graduating with a master in City and Regional Planning (MRP) in 1997, I continued to work with the urban poor communities in Ho Chi Minh City. Between 1997-2000, with the UNDP support and that of Enda Vietnam (an international NGO based in Ho Chi Minh City), I launched the very first five-cities community development fund (CDF) network in Vietnam. This CDF network was expanded to 30 cities during the 2009 – 2014.

From 2000 to 2012, I moved to Paris to live with my husband and two small children but returned to Bangkok in 2012 to continue my work with ACHR Secretariat and local communities.
