Back to team

I am a geographer with a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science (1971). In the KNOW project, I am a Co-Investigator for Work Package 2, where I will be coordinating studies in three countries on the impact of diverse modes of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) in increasing or affecting urban equality.

Originally specialised in urban and regional development, I migrated to the disaster risk and climate change adaptation field from 1989 onwards, always examining these themes from a development angle of cause and effect.

I have lived continuously in Latin America for 44 years (first Mexico from 1974 to 1980 and then Costa Rica from 1980 to date) working at various institutions—the Metropolitan Autonomous University, El Colegio de Mexico and the UNAM in Mexico and at the Central American University Confederation and the Secretariat Generals Office of FLACSO in Costa Rica–, where I have worked since 1991, coordinating a programmed for the social study of disaster risk and climate change adaptation.

My work, research, consultancy, and conferences over the years have taken me to 43 countries on all continents.
